Amy is on shift for the next four hours. Mom seems stable, another positive thing this morning is that they have turned the vent down so she is almost breathing on her own again. There seem to be lots of improvements since surgery, but just not as dramatic as they had hoped. Everyone please send liver-strength!
I have figured out how to post as myself, so you will now be able to tell which sister is posting. We print out the comments every day to read to my mom, and I think my dad is just overwhelmed (in a good, but emotional way) with how many different people have emailed and commented. The amount of support we feel is just...no words to explain it... Many of you say how you check the blog all day, and we do the same for new comments and fun stories to cheer us up. Barri will be here for lunch, the kids have been wilting here without him. I guess I haven't been giving them enough candy or something.

Glad to hear Janet is stable. All the Pikes are thinking about her.
Did I tell you that I have 5 cavities? And I just recently had 3 cavities filled. This for some reason really annoys me. I'm actually a person who flosses at least once a day! I've been doing that for a long time.
Anyway, the dentist breaks this news to me and now he and the hygienist are looking at me like I'm a sugar addict. They start questioning me on what I eat and drink. "What about gatorade?" "no"; "ice tea?" "NO" "lemonade?" "NO" All I drink is water, coffee, occasionally milk and orange juice!
Then I mention that I like to eat chocolate covered almonds and yogurt covered peanuts. The hygienist says "but you're not eating them every day though." And just to myself I think "well, every day that we have them sure." So maybe that is the problem. I don't know if I can quit those.
This dentist is weird anyway. He's very short (about 5 feet tall) and maybe in his late fifties which is being kind. Well, the first time I meet him, he starts in on how great a wrestler he was in college. I don't even think we were talking about sports. In fact, I know I wasn't b/c he was working on me. Anyway, yes he was a great wrestler in college, won state championships (at a Division III school). ON and on about this. Then when I'm done, he gets out his scrapbook of his wrestling days. He actually has it in his office. And a blurb in Sports Illustrated about him and the wrestling. Not only is he a good wrestler turns out he is also a good cross country runner. And he is a good track coach. He went on and on about his athletic achievements it was weird. Finally, I tell him that my Dad was a wrestler so that he would stop explaining the sport to me!
Weird! Okay must get some work done b/4 kids return.
My triathlon swim class was actually much harder than I anticipated. I thought we were going to do drills. I was actually tired the next day. This does not bode well for me. I am not good at running or the bike.
Hugs all around.

Jill and family:
Very glad to hear your mom is almost breathing on her own! I am sure at times the recovery process is taking longer than you all hoped, but remember, baby steps in the right direction are always better than any step in the wrong direction!
Like I said in my e-mail to you this morning, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I am sure the CF walk is the last thing on your mind, but if there is anything I can do to help you with it - go to Missoula, talk to a business about a donation, contact someone about the event, etc, please let me know.
Well, about 1 million weeds are calling my name, so I better go work on the flower garden. At this point I think I might just dig up the flowers and have a weed garden. LOL Take care. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love,
Kathy
