Sunday am

Well, my dad, kids, and I are off to Challis.  This may be our last trip but Mom felt we needed to go.  Amy will be staying with her today.  Last night she had new anti-anxiety meds and the night was the best in the past week.  She thinks maybe the all-nighters can stop.

I am so glad that the new meds are working. I also remembered that when Dad had open-heart surgery, he had days that were extremely awful emotionally and one of the doctors said that often this is triggered by medications they have to take so it's a catch-22 situation. At least now there seems to be a light at the end of the "catch." I am also keeping my fingers crossed for Rita. Cats are amazing survivalists so I am not going to give up hope. See if you can get the media interested in doing a feature on the situation. People have very big hearts and this might spur others to join in the search. Anyway, I love you all very, very much.

Good idea about the media. I bet the local Challis paper would be interested in Rita's story. Hooray about the decent night's sleep -- and hooray for the Aaneruds! (Hi, guys! I've been enjoying your posts, Vickie. Where are Brittany and Devon, and what are they up to? They're still teenagers, right?) Brian: I'm signing Gina up for a week of "Chocolate Camp" this summer. They get to do all sorts of things with chocolate: make it, taste it, decorate with it, do art with it.... Unfortunately, participants have to be between the ages of 5 and 13. Love, Mary

Wow! Janet is up one night of sleep on me. I am hoping the change of venue will increase the sleep numbers for me--well, that and I broke down and got some Advil pm. I am still doing laundry but getting ready to head to the airport. We probably won't see you until tommorrow, Janet, but we'll be sleeping under Idaho stars tonight.

Mary, you are so funny! Devon is 25, graduated from ASU, still living in Arizona, working for a new company that makes him happy. He is great about keeping in touch and we are actually talking about him coming out to spend part of the July 4 weekend with us. Brittany is mama to newly two year old Jonas. In fact, it is his birthday party day today. She finished her MFA and has already sold three stories. She is going to try to coordinate to visit when Devon is home too--I am lucky they are so close.

Hope Brian and Jill have luck and come home with Rita; Bob is looking forward to some kitty cat time. Gotta run. See you Hansens soon!

I'm so glad for the better night's sleep, and I hope you do the psych eval Monday no matter what, as even a new arrangemeng of the meds or new meds may not do the trick enough for steady nightly sleep. Not surprising given the PTSD plus medication, but she shouldn't have to suffer, and you all need rest too. One of my writing retreat participants is a pediatrician who wrote a book about using the technique of EMDR to recover from the car accident that almost killed her. If you want more info on EMDR, let me know. When I was working for UNICEF in Bangladesh, I met a team of psychologists who were there teaching local medical professionals and healers the techniques for use with trauma and war victims throughout South Asia. It's been used very successfully with vets here in the States also, and I have some positive personal experience with it also. This may not be the time for it, but it's a good thing to keep in mind and maybe research and consider it later. It's just an eye movement scanning technique, but it relieves long-held traumatic fears.
Love to you all,
Carolyn

Dear Hansen's,
Well, I am feeling like a total incompetent heel. I wondered yesterday if my six or more messages that I have sent off to you over the past two weeks were reaching you. Elaine just confirmed for me that they have not reached you as I am technologically challenged and did not not pay attention to the fact that I had to type these letters below this into their box and choose a user identity. This is my first time using a blog spot. So, this is a test of the "emergency broadcast system." I will check to see if this goes through and then try to recreate some of the highlights of the messages I have sent into outer space. I have been reading the blog daily and you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you all. Love, Barbara Mayers

Hello all,
We are sorry to hear that Janet has been so anxious and worried. I know how stressful it must be for all of you to see her that way. We will keep all of you in our prayers. I am glad you are having some relief coming in. We keep thinking about Rita too. I like Eileen's idea about getting some media attention to the story.

Things here are good. Cassidy had another soccer game (no goals yet!). Katie went to a moonbounce birthday party which she described as "totally awesome." This is a good thing as she is having the same type of party in a few weeks. Kevin went to a Superhero party at one of our neighbor's houses. Seeing a bunch of three and four year olds running around in superhero capes is too cute.

Jake and I went to a wedding picnic (the actual wedding was a private ceremony a few weeks ago). We decided we would get a sitter for the kids to have some time alone. A serious miscalculation! The picnic was a kidsfest. They had a girl scout troop there organizing games and crafts. It was on a working farm so there were animals galore. They had billy goats that went across balance beams to get food that you pullied up to them. There was a slide in a hill so you actually slid through the hill and popped out the bottom. Since we didn't have the kids, I made Jake go through it (he did). There were little bikes you could ride around the farm. There were line dances and cake. The topper, though, were the PIG RACES. They actually had PIG RACES. But for the fact it was one and a half hours away, we would have gone home and gotten the kids. Anyway, Jake and I did have fun. I was glad he had a chance to go through the slide.

The Brownie aqua party was Friday night. It went really well. They had a big blow-up obstacle course and a slide. The co-leader and I went in with the girls and they thought that was pretty funny. They kept trying to knock us off the obstacle course which wasn't too hard.

Nothing too eventful coming up this week. We are thinking of you every day. It is not easy but the end result will be that Janet is home. We love you.

Leanne, Jake, and kids

Dear Hansen's,
I now see that my test message went through but the next one that I typed to recap the six that were lost in e-mail space has not gone through. I tell you, I send off bad vibes to computers!! I will keep trying. Brian, in the meantime, plase call you dear sister. She can give you a recap of my messages. Love, Barbara Mayers
