The day could not have been more exciting. My Mom got her nose tube out. She also tried to negotiate with yet another doctor, trying to move up her estimated departure date (June 1). When he said "Doctors can't negotiate" she threw back "Well, I'm going to miss the my daughter's Great Strides Walk. Could you donate?" Can you just imagine the look on his face? She got the green light from her speech therapist to eat any kind of food she wants. A piece of Derek's birthday cake has recently been delivered.
She is still not sleeping well, but is more coherent and coordinated with each passing hour. Mom, Amy, and I spent a relaxing (!) afternoon together, watching chick flicks on the family channel. Derek, Barri, Dad, and Anna came in so Mom could watch Derek open his gift from her--he loves it, a Leapster video game. Mom was tired so we left and Dad treated to a Transformer birthday celebration at the local go-kart place. The kids were too short for the go-karts but they had about 6 bounce houses and the kids bounced for an hour.

Janet can and will fundraise anywhere! Continuing cool news == now the trick will be for each and all to get more rest. I'll send wishes for calm and the ability to gear down a little from the all-out emergency mode. Sorry, once a coach, always a coach. Love to all, Carolyn
So glad you all had some "normal" time together. Celebrating a birthday is the perfect time to appreciate each other. And it is great news that there is a tentative departure date--gives everyone a glance at the light at the end of the tunnel. I giggled when I read that Janet buttonholed the doctor for a donation--I knew as soon as she was able to speak her mind that those doctors were going to be on the run! Hope your Mother's Day is as wonderful as Derek Day!

Happy Mother's Day, Janet, and a Happy Mother's Day to all of you, Brian, Jill, Amy, and family. I know it's got to be the best one yet to have Janet back, and to see that she grows better day by day!! I'm thinking about all of you!! Dorothy Kruse
Happy Mother's Day, Janet, and happy birthday to Derek. What a wonderful weekend you're all having, all things considered.
I send my wishes for calm also, as Carolyn Foster said. Rest can now be scheduled into everyone's plan.

Take care of yourselves!!

Happy Mother's Day, Janet! So glad to be getting consistently good news. I hope you get a nice deep sleep for Mother's Day. (Come to think of it, that's what I want, too!) Love, Mary
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms! I am sure you are all so extremely thankful. Janet you look great! Glad to hear that you are doing so well. It makes me laugh to hear how hard you are negotiating with the doctors (they may actually know what is best for you at the moment but it never hurts to give your two cents) & how you haven't skipped a beat & maybe even accelerated your comments on future grandkids. I hope & pray that you can all get some much needed rest. I am bummed that I missed the birthday party! Sounds like it was fun & a needed break. Happy birthday Derek! I love you guys & continue to pray.
hugs, Valerie
