Just got back from my 4 hour shift with Mom, although I didn't spend much of it with her. I waited while she got another CT scan. If the scan results allow, she will be given postural drainage and percussions (Derek was excited about that--that's what he gets 3 times a day). The culture showed no pneumonia and her fever is down today, less than 100. When I left she was hopefully about to get her gall bladder and liver ultrasounded. Her art line is tough to stay functional, so it is out now. Good news about that is that her blood pressure has been good, but they will stick her for each blood draw. Hopefully they will get a new line in soon.
Good news, I found a babysitter for the kids tomorrow. She is the aunt of a family friend and a grandma. Her grandkids will be there to play with. Thanks, so many of you, for all the ideas.
ps-don't get me started on the family who brought their contagious daughter into the ICU waiting room with hand-foot-mouth disease. Don't worry, I let the nurses know to clean it up good and I forbade my dad and sister from being in that room for the next 24 hours.

Oops, lost my comment. Just want you to know that you are all doing a super job of being advocates for your mom. I can't imagine what might have happened to how many people had you not been on the ball on the little girl's contamination of the ICU waiting room. What were her parents thinking?
Again, thanks for such detailed updates; I feel much better knowing that there has been some really good progress: lower fever, no pneumonia and sitting up in a chair for a good long time. I almost feel as if I was there in the cheering section with you.

I have been following all the medical updates on you and I must say your daughters are doing an outstanding job on keeping everyone informed on your medical condition. I have notified Hospice on what has happened and just know that all of us are rooting for you. I have given out this blog to everyone so that they can individually monitor the updates. The Janet I know is tough and is a fighter and I know that you will come through this. I love you. Barb

You guys are doing a good job with the medical updates. Your Mom is definitely getting better care with you being there.
So here's what is going on....I thought I discovered a great new argument for my case (you know, drugs in the closet, had no idea they were there. The jury took only one hour to decide the case! One hour! The charge (this is when the judge reads the appropriate law to the jury so they can decide the case) to the jury takes at least 40 minutes! They obviously did not believe a word out of the defendant's mouth. So my argument was that this proves that there was overwhelming evidence of defendant's guilt. Therefore, any misstatement by the ADA in her closing had no effect at all. But apparently that is not a good argument b/c it could be argued that the ADA's misstatement so prejudiced the jury that they came back that fast. I am supposed to stick with what I wrote in my brief. The Deputy DA in charge of appeals told me "it's only 5 minutes, the judges don't even take notes. And they probably aren't going to remember anything you say that isn't in your brief" In other words, don't get fancy just stick to your brief. Okay I can do that. Argument is May 14th at 9am.
